An opportunity currently exists for motivated and enthusiastic applicants to join Council’s multi-skilled workforce. The successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance of Council’s Tip Sites at either Warialda or Bingara ensuring that legislative requirements for the disposal of waste are met in accordance with the Waste Management Plan.

These are permanent part time positions and the hours will be tailored to suit the needs of the successful applicants.

The position is classified as Grade 2 in Council’s salary system with salary ranging from $17.2268 to $18.9926 hour.  Placement within this grade will be dependant upon the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful applicant. These roles could suit a variety of applicants including those currently receiving government benefits and we would encourage all interested persons to apply.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
Position Title:    Tip Attendant (Part Time)

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of Council’s Waste Disposal and Collection Sites, the direction of customers using the sites to the appropriate location of disposal and the processing of recyclable materials as directed

Project a professional, co-operative and courteous image when representing Council in your day to day work activities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Open and close Waste Disposal Facilities as necessary, ensuring access by the public is maintained and security of facilities is monitored and all persons have vacated site prior to locking up.

  • Liaise with supervisor as required to ensure the efficient operation of the Waste Disposal Facilities.
  • Provide  a high level of customer service to all persons visiting the Waste Disposal Site.
  • Record vehicles entering and leaving sites, recording data and information required for the application of Council’s disposal fees.
  • Compact and fill collections areas on a daily basis, using plant provided.
  • Carry out minor routine maintenance and cleaning of plant on a daily basisand liaise with supervisors on plant service and repair requirements.
  • Maintain Waste Disposal Site sheds, office and other facilities.
  • Maintain internal and external surrounds of Waste Site on a daily basis, or as directed, collecting windblown litter and other dumped or scattered items for disposal in correct location.
  • Collect re-usable items for on-selling and recyclable items such as ferrous and nonferrous metals, white goods and timber as required.
  • Empty oil containers into oil recycling stations and maintain this facility in good order.
  • Carry out green waste chipping and mulching as required.
  • Carry out fly control using pesticide baits or other methods as directed.
  • Examine cargo to prohibit disposal of hazardous waste in accordance withGovernment regulations.
  • Carry out routine cleaning of surrounds.


ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

The position reports to and is responsible to the Environmental Services Manager.

Internally, the position is required to liaise with Engineering and Town Services in addition to Environmental & Social Services.

Externally, the position is required to liaise with the general public, contractors, business and private enterprise making use of the Council facility.

  • Comply with any OH&S Responsibility and Accountability Statement adopted by Council from time to time.

Failure to comply with any reasonable direction from your immediate Supervisor or other authorised person will result in disciplinary action.


KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL

  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Good knowledge of tip and recycling procedures.
  • Reasonable written and oral communication skills.
  • General knowledge of Workplace Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare regulations.
  • Demonstrated Front End Loader experience and/or tickets
  • General Induction for Construction work in NSW card.
  • Class C driver’s licence


DESIRABLE                       

  • Class HR Driver’s Licence.
