
Gwydir Shire Council Employs School Based Trainees and Apprentices
The Gwydir Shire Council has recently welcomed two new school-based trainees, Michael Morton and Emily Gobbert, as well as Karien Le Roux as Trainee for Tharawonga into their work force.
Michael Morton, a Year 10 student at Bingara Central School has been successful in obtaining a school-based apprenticeship in Certificate lll in Automotive Mechanical. Michael will be attached to the Gwydir Shire Council Bingara workshop, commencing his tenure there on Thursday 18th March and working there one day a week during his time as a school student.
Michael will also work at the Bingara Workshop during some of his school vacations. He will complete his Automotive studies through TAFE New England. At the completion of the school-based part-time section of his apprenticeship, he than becomes a full-time apprentice at Council for the next three years. Michael will be a valued addition to the staff at the Bingara workshop.
Emily Gobbert, a Year 12 student at Warialda High School has taken on a part-time school-based traineeship in Tourism and Events Management.
Emily will be dividing her time between the Warialda Tourist Information Centre and the Roxy Theatre. She has already demonstrated huge initiative in her role as a tourism trainee by taking initial steps towards establishing monthly markets in Warialda.
She has other great ideas in the pipeline.
Emily will complete her Year 12 HSC year over a two year period whilst she attempts studies in Certificate ll in Tourism through TAFE New England.
We are looking forward to working with Emily in the areas of tourism and events management.
New Trainee for Tharawonga
Karien Le Roux, an Assistant at Tharawonga Mobile Resource Unit based at North Star has recently signed up for a traineeship in Diploma of Children’s Services.
She will complete these studies through TAFE New England. Karien has recently
completed a Certificate lll in Children’s Services and is keen to further her knowledge and expertise in this field as she engages in these Diploma-level studies.
Karien and her husband, Ikus emigrated to Australia from Bloemfontein in Free State, South Africa, and she has been working at Tharawonga since 2008.
Karien has been a much-valued member of the Tharawonga staff during this time and we wish her well in her new endeavours.
